Environmental advocate SVN launches unique reforestation project in Suriname

Brokopondo, March 6, 2024 — SVN, a champion of sustainable development and environmental protection, proudly announces the start of the Suriname Reforestation Project. This leading initiative aims to restore and rejuvenate Suriname's natural landscapes.

The official launch will take place with a ceremony on March 6 at the Grun Prani Farm in Brokopondo, where the first tree will be planted.

Key Pillars of the Suriname Reforestation Project

  • CO2 Absorption: The pilot project involves planting thousands of trees over 2 hectares, aimed at absorbing CO2 and combating climate change.

  • Reforestation & Permaculture: This initiative integrates more than 10 different species into an ecological design, mimicking self-sustaining and regenerative natural ecosystems.

  • Jobs and Education: The project not only provides jobs and education for the community but also works closely with the Trio tribe, enhancing local commitment and knowledge.
